Barry Walters
Town Council

Barry Walters was elected to Town Council in November 2023.

Barry is the Director of External Communications and Policy at APNH: A Place to Nourish your Health (formerly AIDS Project New Haven) in New Haven, CT. In this role, Barry builds upon the years of working in HIV prevention, Continuum of Care Planning and Implementation, and advocacy to improve delivery of services and build advocacy networks in Connecticut. In addition to APNH, Barry serves as a Co-Chair with the Connecticut LGBTQ+ Justice and Opportunity Network (formerly known as the Connecticut LGBTQ+ Health and Human Services Network). He is also the founder and Co-Chair of West Hartford Pride, which has grown from a small rally to one of the largest festivals in the area.

Prior to joining Town Council, Barry served two terms as Co-Chair of the Town’s Human Rights Commission and was appointed as a Town Council Zoning Alternate. He is a member of the West Hartford Democratic Town Committee, currently serving as a District Chair.

A self-described “Air Force brat” who moved around the country frequently before settling in Arizona, Barry moved to Connecticut with his partner, David, in 1997 and has lived in West Hartford since 1999. Their son attends West Hartford Public Schools.
