MAGA Federal Budget Response

Dear Friends,
Budgets are statements about values and priorities, and a few moments ago, MAGA Republicans in Congress passed the Big Ugly Budget Bill.
This legislation represents a spectacular failure of leadership and compassion. It cuts essential resources and services for millions of hard-working families while showering the wealthy with tax breaks.
The consequences of this bill are dire and will have a devastating impact on every community, including ours. Below is just a small sample of what this budget does.
•Cuts $1.3 trillion in food assistance and health coverage
•Puts roughly 5 million Americans — about 1 in 8 SNAP participants — at risk of losing food assistance
•Rips away health care from 17 million Americans through over $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act, including the largest cut to Medicaid in American history
•Increases energy bills by hundreds of dollars across the country
•Adds $3.25 trillion to the national debt
That is in stark contrast to the budget our Democratic led Board of Education and Town Council passed on a bipartisan basis back in April, which maintained essential services, invested in public safety, and supported our schools. It wasn't an easy process, and tough decisions were made, but at the end of the day, it preserved what we all believe makes our town special.
Electing Democrats matters! At every level. Imagine how different a Democratic Congress's budget would look and who it would benefit. At the same time, imagine what a Republican majority BOE and Town Council would be doing right now.
Municipal government is the final firewall against the Trump Administration.
Now more than ever, we must be united in our mission to elect Democrats. Third-party candidates and Republicans are not equipped to meet this moment that Trump has wrought.
I look forward to working with you all in the coming weeks and months to ensure our Democratic candidates are successful this November and beyond.
Best,
Peter Andrews
